I received the photo and story below (via SMS) from a friend of the lounge lucky enough to be following the Giro.
"We had 5 great day's riding in Tuscany, very sunny & good food & wine. Stayed 3 nights near Siena & then at hill town of Montslcino. Rolling country but climbed Amiata, the highest peak in Tuscany to prepare for Dolomites.
Didn't ride 1st day here (Dolomites) as wet & cold. Smooth roads are treacherous in the wet. Since then have had 3 spectacular days with massive climbing. The Giro day was a gut-buster & Giau is unrelentingly steep. No little level bits to top up with food & drink. Gardena & Pordoi yesterday were pretty special. There are 35 switchbacks on Pordoi & the views are spectacular in every direction. We only road just over 100km yesterday but in that climbed 0ver 3000m. After more than 8000m in 3 days my legs are feeling remarkably good, but a rest day as we bus to zoom is not a bad thing I suspect.
Our tour finished with a pilgrimage up the hill to Madonna del Ghisallo & the further up to the Sormano pass."
